Officers of the Traffic and the Criminal Investigation Departments are conducting an investigation into a vehicular accident that led to the death of Peter Baker of Belmont in St. George’s .
The accident is reported to have occurred around 10.45 pm last evening along the Calivigny Public Road in St. George’s .
Police say a body was found on the scene of the accident, and was later examined by a medical practitioner who lives in the area, who confirmed the death.
An individual, who identified himself as the brother of the deceased, identified the body as Peter Baker, and informed the investigating officers on the scene, that Peter was in his early forties and was employed as a mechanic.
The cause or circumstances that led to the accident are still to be determined.
A blue Daewoo vehicle registration PG 123 was found on its hood, and is believed to be involved in the accident.
A post mortem was expected to be conducted today, Tuesday 10th June 2008 to determine the cause of death.
Officers of the South Police Station are continuing their investigation.

Many Grenadians are wondering about the special polling day when members of the Royal Grenada Police Force will vote.
Elections supervisor Ms. Nadica Mc Intyre has assured citizens that the balloting process for the officers will be fair and transparent.
Ms. Mc Intyre says the recently passed amendment to the Representation of the People’s Act and its rules for operations are quite clear as to the safeguards for the process.
Mc Intyre highlights how the entire process will be handled.
She says that a count will be made as to how much ballot paper was supplied to ensure that all special ballot papers can be accounted for.
Any spoilt ballot papers will be placed in a special envelope supplied for this purpose and sealed with the number of spoilt ballots noted on the envelope.
The law enforcement officials will go to the polls on July 4th.

Its 27 more days before Grenadians go to the polls on July 8 and as expected politicians are hyping up their campaign.
The ruling New National Party is seeking a fourth term in office while the main opposition National Democratic Congress is seeking to prevent that from happening by being elected the new Government.
However as the campaigning intensifies some candidates of the New National Party claim they fear for their safety.
Candidates claim they along with their families have been receiving threats by supporters of other political parties.
One such candidate is Devon Rache, the youngest politician and the NNP candidate for the parish of St. David.
Devon says files containing information about the party was stolen from his house.
He added that the NNP party office in St. David’s was also vandalized.
Meantime Brenda Hood the candidate for the town of St. George has also echoed similar sentiments.
And Ann David Antoine, NNP candidate for St. George’s South says the NNP cannot condone such behavior.

Osborne James of the National Democratic Congress has been campaigning vigorously to unseat Modeste-Curwen in the general election scheduled for July 8.
Modeste-Curwen made the comment about voters replacing the NNP during a party event Sunday in Lasagesse, St. David.
Minister for Tourism and constituency representative for St. Mark’s Dr. Clarice Modest Curwen in delivering remark’s at Sunday’s also called on the opposition to take a stand against drugs.
Her comments as it relates to that issue.
Weefm contacted one of the Opposition’s Mp’s for a comment on the issue. Hon Glennis Roberts while not refuting or sanctioning the allegations made by the minister for Tourism she noted that her party is not pointing figures.
She said that the party has a plan for the country.

Commissioner of Police Mr. Winston James is urging all leaders and senior members of political parties to encourage their members and supporters to conduct themselves in a peaceful manner and refrain from any form of confrontation or conflict while engaging in campaigning activities.
The call was made as a result of the number of complaints coming to the attention of the Police involving supporters of the various political parties.
Commissioner James has committed the resources of the Royal Grenada Police Force to ensure a peaceful environment during this election period.
Commissioner James is calling on persons, especially those directly involved in campaigning activities, to be tolerant, understanding, and respect persons with opposing views and positions.
The Commissioner is encouraging campaign leaders and managers to report to the Office of the Commissioner of Police, any incident or occurrence that would have caused any form of disruption to a campaign activity organized by the respective party.
Commissioner James is also calling persons speaking on the various platforms to refrain from encouraging any form of hatred, resentment and/or violence during their presentations.

The NDC event held on Sunday was filled with gospel music from local and regional artists.
The evening’s event heard addresses from representatives of the party including the opposition leader Hon Tillman Thomas.
The Cuthbert Peters park was transformed into a sea of gold as supporters turned out in their colors and flags to represent their party, a party that has promised change for the masses in the spice isle, in the areas of agriculture, tourism and education to name a few.
Well Addressing the endorsing of the candidate in St. David’ s Devon Rachae the Prime Minister condemned the Opposition for such an event calling it an event used in the name of god for the purpose of hate.
Leader Tillman Thomas addressing supporters at the gospel concert again raised the issue of the alleged briefcase enquiry noting that such are not examples of progress but mismanagement.
The opposition leader also highlighted the behavior of the Prime Minister in public office and termed it as “madness.”
Well both parties continue with their campaigning strategies this week which ranges from village meetings to walkabouts and visits to their various constituencies.

Meantime Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Albert Ramdin, will pay a two-day visit to Grenada to pave the way for the arrival of an observer mission as the country prepares for general election.
Francis McBarnette, head of the OAS office in Grenada said that during the June 12-14 visit, meetings will be held with all political stakeholders.
Ambassador Ramdin will be accompanied by Steven Griner who will provide technical support to the election office and will head the technical arm of the observer mission which arrives days after Ramdin's visit.

NNP’s candidate for the St. Georges South Ann David Antoine says the New National party would not sign on to the Political Code of Conduct which has been officially released.
At a news conference yesterday Antoine says the members the groups of Non Governmental Organization who have drawn up the code of conduct are acting like a political parties.
Antoine says the NNP has its own code and ethic by which it abides.
The Grenada Conference of Churches in a statement last week fully endorsed the Civil Society Declaration and Code of Conduct and called on all political parties and candidates to subscribe.
Bishop Darius is the chairman of the Grenada Conference of Churches.
Spokes person for the group of Non Governmental Organization is Miss Sandra Ferguson she spoke about the document in an exclusive interview with WEE FM news.
She spoke of the New National Party who has already publicly stated that it will not be signing the document.

It was a graduation with a difference with the Junior Achievers decked out in their business attire to proudly represent their school companies as part of the finals of the Junior Achievement Programme 2007/8 last Thursday.
The event was held under the patronage of His Excellency Sir Daniel Williams, Governor General.
The graduation ceremony heard the feature address from Mr. J Errol Lewis, Executive Director of the Junior Achievement Programme in Trinidad & Tobago.
Mr. Lewis who has been involved in Junior Achievement Worldwide threw out two challenges to the over 350 plus achievers.
Lewis implored on the achievers not to give up but to make clear decisions. He highlighted the achievement of the JA programme in Trinidad and Tobago .
St. Joseph’s Convent walked away with ten (10) awards in this year’s programme among them the prestigious Company of the Year title.

As the T. A. Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) continues to deliver quality educational and training opportunities, work is soon to begin on a new technical wing at the Six Roads Campus of the T. A. Marryshow Community College (Carriacou).
This addition to the programmes that are already being delivered at the Six Roads Campus is in response to the many requests coming from persons on the Sister Isles of Carriacou and Petite Martinique for the introduction of technical programmes that will meet the developmental needs of the islands.
When completed, it will house the Building, Electrical and Boat Building technologies among others.
Funding for this project will come from the Government of Grenada and the T. A. Marryshow Community College .
Work is expected to begin by the end of June to be completed within three (3) months.

The much anticipated Q West 10th Anniversary Father’s Day Event is now scheduled for one day prior to the date given.
The event carded for the National Stadium was expected to be held on Sunday June 15th 2008, the day celebrated as Fathers Day.
Organizers say the date has now been moved to Saturday June 14th for 6pm at the same venue.
To make the Event as accessible to as many persons as possible Q West says that they have taken the decision to have this special celebration take place after the Grenada vs. Costa Rica football game and to avoid direct competition with the political activities now taking place on Sundays.
The original format of the event will remain the same with the $60,000 Bingo, Father’s Karaoke Competition and a special live performance by Maxi Priest and his Fame Band.
